Budapest – Hungary 2006
Written on November 15, 2006
Working my way east from Slovenia i arrived in Hungary in the middle of the night in a small resort town of Siófok lake Balaton (the largest lake in central Europe by the way) to a few days of relaxation after my ordeal in Slovenia. So now you might as yourself well why isn’t there any photos from Siófok and only Budapest? Well i will tell you, there was nothing to take photos of. Its just a town on a lake and the lake is muddy. Its quite beautiful in its own way, but its more of a party spot and spa resort during the summer mainly visited by people who live in Budapest. So now you know…
So here is Budapest, its an amazingly beautiful and bustling city composed with throngs of tourists mixed with modern conveniences and a booming nightlife. Old buildings and new buildings clash by the Danube that cuts the city in half with “Buda” being the older part and mainly perched on a hill, while “Pest” is the somewhat newer and more commercial hub of the two residing on the flat area to the east of the Danube. Years ago the two cities merged and they are known collectively as of course “Budapest”.
There truly are a million things to see and do in this city, I would highly recommend that you set aside 4 to 5 days just to explore and enjoy Budapest, however I doubt even the most hardcore traveler could ever see the entire city if given years. Its pretty cool, just stay away from the pricey tourist traps by the Danube
