Funivie Monte Bianco – Mount Blanc
Written on September 1, 2007
Well one broken Gondola later and my father and I ended up in France! We set out for a couple hour scenic view and it turned into a epic scenic adventure. The gondola broke down midway up from Italy to Mount Blanc and they issued us bus vouchers from Chamonix France. (a $100 value no less!) So we got the grand tour, glaciers, hikers, skiers and of course tons of ice and snow. I will have more to say on this later, but i wanted to get the photos up now, so check them out here.
Vistas and Panoramas from the Gondola Stops
I took a view sweeping photos from the top of the tramway while we were transferring from one gondola to another. The first shot below is from the second stop from the Italian side where you catch the triple gondola to the French side of the Mount Blanc Funivie. From this vantage point you can see the southern and eastern summit of Mount Blanc and in the valley below is Courmayeur Italy. The Aosta valley lies beyond and the center of the image is due south with the Alps stretching into the horizon.
The second Photo is looking to the east at the glacier that rests in the saddle between Mount Blanc and Grandes Jorasses. You can see people hiking over the glacier in the snow. Very stunning and pretty, you will notice the epic steepness and jagged geology of the Alps.
