Truck camping on the Colorado River

Written on June 9, 2008

Just a view on the way to the camping spot

Jenni and I headed out to a nice spot along the Colorado River this weekend for some truck camping and took a few photos of our adventures. The spot we camped at isn’t the easiest place to to get too by truck but apparently quite a few people hike in from the main road or the Pumphouse area campground about a mile downstream. It was failry early in the season so we were surprised that there was another truck down here but there are a few good spots so this wasn’t a problem.

This was the first time I have been down a legitimate 4×4 “Jeep Trail” and big whitey handled it brilliantly! I guess this is why this spot isn’t very popular. I know the few pics of the trail aren’t that impressive but believe me they were pretty hairy…

Gore Canyon from the trail

We took a quick hike down Gore Canyon as well, here you can see the water is running pretty high for this time of year, expect it to get even bigger in the next few weeks. There are some great hiking photos into the canyon and some views of the rapids up and down the gorge with a little train action thrown in for good measure.

You can view all the photos here
