Almost Made It

For those of you who don’t know too much about White Water Rafting the Arkansas River is on of the premier White Water rafting rivers in Colorado if not the entire Untied States. The runoff from the surrounding mountains creates some spectacular high water in June and July and having so much snow this year virtually assured us of some great rapids this year. The Arkansas starts off above Leadville Colorado and is the 6th longest river in the United States, it eventually dumps into the Mississippi River in as you can guess, Arkansas.

The river has a superb set of class III to high class IV+ set of rapids depending on the section and water flow, for those who don’t know about the scale which rapids are rated against i encourage you to check out this link about the rating system, its pretty cool.

Anyway we all had fun and the weather held out for the most part but the water is very cold, yes I’m wearing a full wet suit, and I’m glad i did!

The first 25 mile section we “survived” was the Royal Gorge which in itself is pretty cool, I wish i had more photos, you have  to check the link out to read about it. They closed the gorge the next day due to rising water and safety so we JUST made it.. was AWSOME.

The 2nd day we headed off from railroad bridge above Buena Vista Colorado and pulled out below Browns Canyon, about 27 miles total.
